Job summary

Zayo Europe is seeking a NOC 1 Engineer to provide first-line support for Dark Fibre and optical networks within a 24x7 NOC. You will handle faults, service turn-ups, and customer communications while coordinating with field engineers and data centre teams.

You should have 1–3 years in telecommunications/NOC roles, knowledge of OTDR testing, and familiarity with DWDM/optical transport. The role offers hybrid working in the London area with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years' experience in Telecommunications, NOC, Service Assurance, or Field Engineering Operations.
• Understanding of fibre-optic networks and Dark Fibre services.
• Knowledge of OTDR testing and light-level analysis.
• Familiarity with fibre cable types, routing, and splicing concepts.
• Understanding of Data Centre operations and connectivity.
• Basic knowledge of DWDM and optical transport technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
• Experience using Microsoft 365 and Salesforce/ServiceNow ticket management systems.
• Customer-focused and proactive approach to service assurance.

Responsibilities

• Respond to requests from customers and support teams.
• Raise, own, and manage trouble tickets through resolution.
• Perform initial fault triage and investigation of Dark Fibre incidents.
• Interpret OTDR traces and optical test results.
• Monitor service alarms and coordinate restoration activities with field engineers.
• Provide updates to customers and stakeholders throughout the fault lifecycle.
• Escalate incidents per procedures and SLA requirements.
• Perform service turn-up and end-to-end circuit validation.
• Verify optical light levels and loss budgets meet design specs.
• Coordinate activation schedules and handover activities.
• Arrange/data centre access and patching support.
• Support change management and ISO compliance objectives.
