Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) seeks a Telecoms Network Management Centre (NMC) Shift Engineer in Taunton. You will monitor, manage, configure and control telecoms and SCADA networks, coordinating with field ops, design and commercial teams for reliable, secure solutions.

You’ll follow a five-week shift pattern with 24/7 coverage; initial training will be office-based before shifts start. Some roles may start with a lower salary during training.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Network Management Centre or similar environment.
• Experience with configuration and fault finding in Layer 2/3 IP networks (switches/ routers/ firewalls).
• Desirable knowledge of DWDM, MPLS-TP, Microwave, SDH/PDH.

Responsibilities

• Provide front line operational support in the NMC environment (1st/2nd line).
• Remote configuration of network elements on Telecoms and SCADA networks.
• Manage own time to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Work with contractors and witness tests as needed.
• Collaborate with colleagues and customers to ensure continuity of service.
• Adhere to National Grid procedures and safety practices.
• Provide technical support to customers and liaise with teams to resolve issues.
