Job summary

Expeditors International is seeking personnel to ensure proper and timely movement and clearance of freight with exceptional customer service within the Customs Brokerage department.

Shifts run 6PM–6AM in a 4 nights on, 4 nights off rotation. You will engage in data entry, liaising with customs and ensuring compliance with SOPs and regulations to deliver reliable service.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of customs brokerage process.
  • Understanding of ocean, transcon and air documentation process.
  • Knowledge of air, road and ocean transport.
  • Knowledge of incoterms.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely arrival for work.
  • Ensure smooth and timely customs process flow (Work quality and timeliness).
  • Interpret desk level SOPs and fulfill customers’ instructions and expectations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into operating systems.
  • Transpose customs declaration information from documents into the customs entry system.
  • Verify documents for customs purposes and ensure compliance.
  • Interact with customs authorities to address issues during the clearance process.
  • Act as liaison between customs authorities and customers.
  • Ensure timely customs clearance of cargo for shipments.
  • Interact with customers during the clearance process ensuring satisfaction.
  • Adhere to OPS and external regulations; follow company policies with integrity.

Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Ensure the proper and timely movement and clearance of freight, while providing an exceptional customer service within the Customs Brokerage department.

Working Hours

The shifts are 6PM - 6AM on a 4 nights on, 4 nights off rotation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure timely arrival for work
  • Ensure smooth and timely customs process flow (Work quality and timeliness)
  • Understand all the elements of the import and export customs SOP (Desk Level Standard Operating Procedure) and correctly interpret this information to fulfill our customers’ instructions and expectations (Job execution)
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into our operating system (Work quality and timeliness)
  • Transpose customs declaration information from documents, or other sources into the customs entry system to allow for the build of a valid customs declaration (Job Execution)
  • Assist with verification of customs declaration information and the submission of such to the customs authority (Job Execution)
  • Interact with customs authorities to address any issues/questions that may arise during the clearing process (Exceptional customer service)
  • Act as the liaison between the customs authorities (or other government agencies) and customers (Exceptional customer service)
  • Ensure timely customs clearance of cargo to customer for shipments (Work quality and timeliness)
  • Verify documents received for customs purposes are compliant and correct (Job Execution)
  • Interact with our customers during the clearance process ensuring that they are very pleased with our service (Exceptional customer service)
  • Ensure compliance at all times to regulations. This includes internal policies and procedures such as Operational Process Standards (OPS) and external government regulations (eg. OEA) or customer policies / requirements (Job execution)
  • Understand department process flow, constantly looking for areas of improved efficiency (Expeditors culture)
  • Meet KPI standards, as per the company’s procedures (Expeditors culture)
  • Overseas communications, timely responses to emails and requests (internal and external) (Work quality and timeliness)
  • Escalation of problems to Management when necessary (Effort and teamwork)
