Coastway Vets in Brighton seeks a part-time veterinary surgeon for a night position, averaging 16.38 hours per week with a four-on, twenty-off rota from 7pm to 9am. You’ll manage a varied emergency and medical caseload, including exotic inpatients, with a supportive night team.

You will be sole clinical charge at night, benefiting from a well-equipped hospital, structured handovers and opportunities to deepen emergency and critical care experience.

A rare part-time night role for an experienced veterinary surgeon who wants meaningful emergency and medical work without surrendering life beyond the rota. Take sole charge with a full ward handover, work beside an experienced night nurse and animal nursing assistant, and draw on a purpose-built hospital, advanced diagnostics and a deeply experienced clinical team.

About us

At Coastway Vets, you will join a long-established first opinion, emergency and referral practice centred on our purpose-built, RCVS-accredited Brighton Veterinary Hospital. The hospital supports five branch practices and subscribing practices across the area, bringing a substantial and varied caseload into a genuinely well-resourced clinical setting.

Our facilities include eight consulting rooms, dedicated cat, dog, exotic, isolation and day procedure wards, three theatres, CT, a dental suite and a full in-house laboratory with a dedicated laboratory technician. You will be part of a team with broad clinical interests and multiple certificate holders, including expertise in emergency and critical care, medicine, surgery, imaging and exotics, with in-house and external CPD supporting continued development.

About this role

This is a part-time night position within our growing medicine and emergency team. You will take sole clinical charge from 7pm to 9am on a four-nights-on, twenty-nights-off rota, averaging 16.38 hours per week, with a full ward handover to support clear decisions and continuity of care.

Your caseload will draw from our branches and subscribing practices, combining emergency presentations with the care of hospitalised medical patients and exotic inpatients. You will work alongside a highly experienced night nurse and an animal nursing assistant, while two dedicated hospital vets and the wider day team manage the daytime medical caseload and provide a structured handover.

The role gives you meaningful autonomy without leaving you clinically isolated. There is room to deepen your emergency and critical care experience, and additional shifts may be available to cover holidays if you would like them.

Our offer

The salary is £32,500 to £35,850, based on an average of 16.38 hours per week.

The rota is four nights on and twenty nights off, with shifts from 7pm to 9am. Additional holiday-cover shifts may also be available.
