Abbey House Veterinary Hospital in Morley, Leeds is seeking a Night Veterinary Surgeon to join our emergency team. You’ll work 7pm–8:30am on a 7 nights on / 14 nights off pattern, handling a varied ECC caseload with a supportive nursing team.

This Tier 3 hospital offers full imaging, multiple theatres, ICU, on-site lab, and a collaborative environment where clinicians develop their skills while delivering high-quality patient care.

Night Veterinary Surgeon at Abbey House Veterinary Hospital, Morley, Leeds

£70,000 per annum, depending on experience | Full-time | 7 nights on / 14 nights off

At Abbey House Veterinary Hospital, we’re looking for a Night Veterinary Surgeon to join our dedicated emergency team.

This is a role where every shift brings something different. You’ll work in a busy, well-equipped hospital alongside an experienced nursing team, managing a varied emergency caseload and having the opportunity to develop your skills with the support of a highly collaborative team. With a 7 nights on, 14 nights off working pattern, you’ll have plenty of dedicated time away from work to recharge, pursue your interests and enjoy life outside the hospital.

• Full imaging suite, including X-ray and multiple ultrasound scanners
• 4 operating theatres with a dedicated surgical nursing team and certificate-holder-led services
• Dedicated dental suite with dental X-ray
• Rigid and flexible endoscopy, including laparoscopy
• Excellent inpatient facilities with separate dog, cat and exotic wards
• Dedicated day and long-stay wards
• ICU facilities
• On-site laboratory with dedicated technician, including haematology, biochemistry, coagulation and EPOC
• Separate dog and cat waiting areas
• 7 consult rooms

You’ll have the tools and clinical support you need to provide a high standard of care throughout the night.

Your role

As a Night Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll be responsible for providing high-quality emergency and critical care throughout your shifts. You’ll have the opportunity to:

• Confidently assess, stabilise and manage critically ill or injured patients
• Perform emergency medical and surgical procedures
• Develop appropriate treatment plans and adapt them as patients respond to treatment
• Make strong, evidence-based clinical decisions in challenging situations
• Manage cases through to the appropriate point of handover or discharge
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients during often difficult and emotional situations
• Work closely with our experienced nursing team to provide excellent patient care
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative and supportive team environment

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who:

• Has a genuine interest in emergency and critical care
• Is confident managing emergency medical and surgical cases
• Can remain calm and make sound clinical decisions under pressure
• Has excellent communication skills and can explain diagnoses, prognoses and treatment options clearly to worried owners
• Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a close-knit team
• Takes a practical, adaptable and can-do approachIs committed to delivering high-quality patient and client care
• Wants to continue developing their clinical skills and ECC experience

The working pattern

Full-time | 7 nights on / 14 nights off

Hours: 7pm–8:30am

The working pattern gives you the intensity and variety of emergency practice while providing two weeks away from the hospital after every seven-night block — giving you genuine time to rest, recharge and enjoy everything life outside work has to offer.
