Job summary

Fowler Welch is recruiting a Transport Operator at our Washington site to join the team on a full-time permanent basis. You will manage vehicle utilisation, issue clear driver instructions and ensure service levels are met within driver hours and H&S rules.

Working hours are 4 on 4 off nights, 6pm–6am. The role requires strong planning, communication and organisational skills to optimise fleet and support on-time deliveries.

Qualifications

• Experience of working within a distribution/transport environment.
• Experience of managing own workload within a pressurised environment.
• Sound geographical knowledge.
• Basic understanding of driver’s hours regulations/Tachograph law.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Initiative and the ability to work unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Communicate job instructions clearly to drivers and sub-contractors.
• Plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies.
• Ensure drivers are working within safety and driver hours regulations.
• Liaise with planning to optimise fleet/driver utilisation and ensure on-time delivery.
• Assist in equipment control to meet customer requirements.
• Ensure trucks are legal and data is downloaded in a timely manner.
• Investigate accidents or driver performance with Supervisors and HR.
• Support Supervisors in improving driving style to meet KPIs and manage costs.
• Undertake additional tasks as required by Management.
