Job summary

Supersede Recruitment Partners is seeking a Night Engineer for a busy food manufacturing facility in Newmarket. The role covers nights, with breakdown response, planned maintenance, and collaboration with production teams to maximise uptime.

You will hold an engineering qualification and demonstrate strong fault-finding across mechanical and electrical systems, with experience in conveyors, packaging machinery, motors, pumps, pneumatics, and PLCs desirable.

Qualifications

• Previous engineering experience within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
• A recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent).
• Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience with conveyors, packaging machinery, motors, pumps, pneumatics, and PLC-controlled equipment is desirable.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently during night shifts.
• A strong commitment to health & safety and food hygiene standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on production equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
• Respond promptly to machine breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the company's maintenance management system.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment where required.
• Maintain a clean and organised engineering workshop and work areas.
