Job summary

White Label Recruitment Ltd. seeks an experienced Maintenance Engineer for a night shift in Manchester. You will maintain and repair bakery production equipment to minimise downtime across a busy baking and packaging operation.

The role requires hands-on electrical/mechanical skills, fault-finding ability, and adherence to health, safety and food hygiene standards. Shift pattern is 6pm-6am, four days per week, with potential weekend work.

Qualifications

• NVQ/BTEC/HNC in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in manufacturing or food production environment.
• Strong fault-finding skills and hands-on maintenance ability.
• Understanding of health, safety and food hygiene standards.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload during shifts.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on bakery production machinery.
• Rapidly respond to and resolve machinery breakdowns and faults.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and apply effective solutions.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance work per food safety standards.
• Support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety and hygiene protocols.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams during handovers.

Role Summary

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support our manufacturing operations in Manchester. You'll ensure production machinery is maintained, repaired, and running efficiently to minimise downtime across a busy baking and packaging operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on bakery production machinery including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines
• Rapidly respond to and resolve machinery breakdowns and faults
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and apply effective solutions
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance work and updates in compliance with food safety standards
• Support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and operational efficiency
• Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety and hygiene protocols
• Collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams during handovers and day-to-day operations

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-skilled Engineering
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment
• Strong fault-finding skills and hands-on ability in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance
• Understanding of health, safety and food hygiene standards
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively during shifts

Desirable:

• Experience working with bakery or FMCG production equipment
• Familiarity with PLC-controlled machinery and pneumatic/hydraulic systems
• Experience with CMMS systems or digital maintenance reporting tools
