Job summary

Swift Temps Ltd is recruiting a hands-on, safety-conscious Machine Shop Chargehand for our client in Bradford to support the Night Shift. You will supervise operators, allocate tasks, maintain production flow, and assist with machine setups when required.

This dual-role combines practical leadership with active production support, requiring supervision experience and strong problem-solving abilities. The role offers a night shift pattern and opportunities for development within a manufacturing

Qualifications

Experience in a mechanical machine shop environment (drilling, tapping, or assembly).
Proven leadership experience as a Chargehand, Team Leader, or supervisor.
Ability to set up, adjust and operate basic machinery and tools.
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, ISO 9001 and 5S.
Clear verbal and written communication for briefings and handovers.

Responsibilities

Promote safety and 5S, ensuring risk assessments and PPE compliance.
Lead start-of-shift briefings and provide floor leadership on pace and quality.
Set up, adjust, and operate drilling, tapping, and assembly machinery; troubleshoot basics.
Monitor production progress, log data, and deliver shift handovers.
Enforce ISO 9001 standards and drive continuous improvement to reduce defects.
Coach and upskill team members for shift flexibility and coverage.
