Job summary

Arriva plc is seeking a highly skilled engineer for night shifts to maintain and improve a diverse fleet and infrastructure. The role focuses on diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults across buses, trains and related assets.

You will lead and mentor junior engineers, implement preventive maintenance, and ensure safety and regulatory standards. Strong analytical and diagnostic abilities, plus collaboration with cross-functional teams, are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent with extensive experience
• 5+ years hands-on engineering experience, transport/heavy machinery preferred
• Proven ability to diagnose and fix complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
• Strong knowledge of industry standards, regulations and best practices
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Commitment to continuous professional development

Responsibilities

• Perform complex diagnostic and repair work on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in our fleet and infrastructure
• Lead and mentor junior engineers and technicians with technical guidance
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
• Inspect and test equipment to ensure safety and standards compliance
• Analyze fault data to identify root causes and propose solutions
• Collaborate with operations, safety and procurement to improve performance
• Contribute to design and implementation of engineering upgrades
• Maintain records of maintenance, repairs and parts used
• Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures
