Job summary

Gooch & Housego PLC is seeking an experienced CNC Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) Operator for their night shift. The role involves setting up and operating 5-axis diamond turning machines to produce ultra-high-precision optical components.

A 20% shift uplift applies to night work. Responsibilities include interpreting drawings, selecting diamond tooling, and achieving nanometre-level surface finishes, with strict metrology and quality control.

Qualifications

Experience operating CNC Single Point Diamond Turning machines or similar CNC turning experience.
Proficiency with G-code or machine-specific controls is desirable.
Experience working with ultra-precision materials and understanding tolerances.

Responsibilities

Interpret drawings, CAD data and surface finish specs.
Select and handle diamond tooling to maintain tool integrity.
Achieve nanometre-level finishes and sub-micron tolerances.
Conduct first-off, in-process and final inspections with precision metrology.
Monitor environmental conditions and adjust parameters to optimise quality and cycle times.
Perform routine maintenance and fault diagnosis.
Collaborate with engineering, metrology and quality teams for continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
