Job summary

Norfolk County Council is seeking Night Residential Children’s Practitioners to provide high-quality overnight care for children with disabilities in Norwich. The role focuses on safety, wellbeing and creating a nurturing night-time environment.

The post requires compassion, resilience and ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with shifts that may include weekends and bank holidays. Training and DBS checks are provided.

Qualifications

• Has experience working with children, young people or individuals with additional needs.
• Understands safeguarding and putting children at the centre of everything they do.
• Has excellent communication, listening and observational skills.
• Can remain calm, professional and responsive in challenging situations.
• Is able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Has good literacy, digital and record-keeping skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to use business systems effectively.
• Holds an NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Provide overnight supervision, care and support for children and young people with disabilities.
• Create a safe, stable and nurturing environment where children can feel secure and valued.
• Support with personal and intimate care, including washing, dressing, toileting, feeding, medication administration and moving and handling where required.
• Monitor wellbeing during the night and respond appropriately to health, emotional or behavioural needs.
• Maintain accurate records, reports and incident logs.
• Contribute to care plans and risk assessments, ensuring each child's individual needs are met.
• Build positive relationships with children, families and professionals involved in their care.
• Act as a positive role model, promoting independence, confidence and life skills.
