Job summary

Norfolk County Council is seeking Casual Residential Children’s Practitioners to provide flexible care across children’s residential services for ages 5 to 18. The role offers sleep-in duties, weekend/bank holiday enhancements, and a supportive team environment.

You’ll help with daily routines, education support, independence skills, and safeguarding in a nurturing home setting, with mandatory DBS and potential NVQ Level 3 progression.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children, young people or families.
• Good computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to use business systems.
• Caring, patient and able to build positive relationships.
• Ability to remain calm and use good judgment in challenging situations.
• Flexible, reliable and team oriented.
• Good communication, literacy and digital skills.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Willingness to achieve NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare within two years of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Providing day-to-day care, support and supervision for children and young people.
• Building positive, trusting relationships and acting as a strong role model.
• Supporting children with education, activities, independence skills and personal development.
• Working as part of a dedicated team to create a warm, caring and stable home environment.
• Maintaining accurate records and contributing to care planning and reviews.
• Supporting children with complex emotional, behavioural or additional needs.
• Promoting safeguarding, welfare and positive outcomes for all children in our care.
