Job summary

Brook Street is recruiting a Therapeutic Waking Night Officer for a specialist residential childcare service supporting children and young people with complex needs. The role involves overnight duties from 9:00pm to 8:00am on a rolling rota.

Responsibilities include safeguarding, trauma-informed support, recording and reporting, and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment. Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or willingness to achieve within two years is required.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with emotional/behavioural difficulties, trauma, or attachment needs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to trauma-informed and child-centred practice.
• Willingness to work waking nights, including weekends and bank holidays.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and well-being of all young people during night shifts.
• Provide calm, nurturing therapeutic support to help youths settle and regulate emotions.
• Maintain accurate records of observations, incidents and nightly activities.
• Complete handovers to daytime staff and ensure continuity of care.
• Conduct health, safety and welfare checks and keep the environment homely.
