Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Night Support Residential Worker for New Farm Road, Colchester, to care for 11–17-year-olds within a multi-disciplinary team. The role provides nurturing therapeutic care to children who have experienced trauma, with shifts from 9.15pm to 7.15am and a 37-hour week, every other weekend off.

A Level 3 Diploma is required within probation, with in-house training and supervision.

Qualifications

• Previous experience of working in a children’s residential home is essential.
• Ability to understand and manage challenging behaviour with de‑escalation techniques.
• Effective written and verbal communication required.

Responsibilities

• Provide nurturing therapeutic care to children who have experienced trauma.
• Support and care for the children as a parent would on each shift.
• Manage challenging behaviour using de‑escalation techniques.
• Maintain effective written and verbal communication with the team.
• Work an average 37 hours per week, night shifts 9:15pm–7:15am, every other weekend off.
• Complete Level 3 Diploma within 2 years of probation with training and induction.
