    Job overview

    We are looking to recruit a Night Nurse Practitioner to join our team working in Berwick Infirmary . The successful applicant must have a clinical assessment qualification with experience in working in A&E, Urgent treatment environment and have the skills to be an independent practitioner.

    The Night practitioner team cover Urgent Treatment Centre and support the inpatient ward as hospital Clinical lead once UTC closes at Midnight. They will need to attend UTC overnight should anyone self present

    The practitioners role is to provide independent advanced clinical assessment and management of patients in the Urgent Treatment Centre.

    The practitioners are responsible for flow through the department and ensuring timely assessment, treatment, discharge and referrals where needed.

    They are the senior nurse on site during the night and will support the ward with any clinical issues surrounding patient care

    This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

  • Provide skilled and knowledgeable care and advice to patients and their carers.
  • Complete assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of direct care to patients.
  • Work with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To develop the skills required to provide advanced clinical assessment of patients
  • To triage patients, prioritising clinical need, highlighting and initiating treatment plans by following agreed Trust guidelines and protocols whilst under supervision.
  • To develop the skills to work autonomously, assessing individual patient needs, initiating investigations, determining a differential diagnosis and initiating appropriate holistic, evidencebased treatment and care.
  • To provide senior nursing support on operational issues.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

  • 1st Level Live NMC Registered Nurse
  • Registered Mentor
  • Degree level study with ongoing/continuing professional development
  • ENB998/730 or equivalent.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Minor Injuries qualification/experience
  • ILS (Advanced CPR/Trust one day training course)
  • Nurse prescribing course or willing to undertake
  • Nurse Practitioner qualification (NACAN Masters Level)
  • IRMER course
  • Experience and knowledge
    Essential criteria
  • Appropriate senior clinical experience
  • Appropriate management experience
  • Evidence of continuing academic and professional development
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
