We'd like you to join us as a Night Nurse Manager - Registered Mental Health Nurse - at our Kings Norton service in Birmingham.

Kings Norton Hospital is a purpose-built adult mental health service with capacity for 32 people. The Hospital supports adults of all genders with severe and complex mental health conditions. In this state-of-the-art hospital, we provide high quality intensive treatment in a safe, caring, and secure environment.

The Night Nurse Manager will be responsible for the hospital during the night shift, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, supporting colleagues, monitoring standards of care, and ensuring adherence to policies and standards.

This role involves taking on the Night Nurse Manager responsibilities during the night, supporting other wards with breaks, and providing effective leadership.

The Night Nurse Manager will also manage out-of-hours referrals, liaise with on-call managers and medics, and coordinate admissions.

This is a Mental Health Nurse qualified role

Shift timings:

19:15 - 07:30

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Taking handover from all wards, including incident updates and staffing levels.
  2. Ensuring each ward has the right staff mix and staffing levels are balanced across all wards.
  3. Adjusting staffing as needed to ensure appropriate allocation of permanent and agency staff, considering skills and gender mix.
  4. Covering shifts not filled via the Matrix system.
  5. Recording incidents, seclusions, sickness, and DNA’s reported by wards on the Night report.
  6. Preparing and sharing the Night Report with relevant senior staff.
  7. Visiting wards throughout the night to ensure observations and colleague alertness.
  8. Completing reports, notifications, and documentation as required.
  9. Handover to Ward Managers/CTLs in the morning.
  10. Night Report contents include staffing numbers, incidents, interventions, hospital trips, leave, contractors, and referral updates.

Essential requirements:

  • Legal right to work in the UK
  • Qualified Mental Health Nurse with 2+ years post-registration experience and active NMC registration
  • Knowledge of NMC standards, guidelines, and professional practices
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, and commitment to quality
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Physical ability to undertake PRICE training
  • Experience in a duty nurse or senior nursing role, ideally in an acute inpatient setting
