Job description

We'd like you to join us as a Night Nurse Manager - Registered Mental Health Nurse - at our Kings Norton service in Birmingham.

Kings Norton Hospital is a purpose-built adult mental health service with a capacity for 32 people. The hospital supports adults of all genders with severe and complex mental health conditions. In this state-of-the-art hospital, we provide high-quality intensive treatment in a safe, caring, and secure environment.

Role Overview:

The Night Nurse Manager will be responsible for overseeing the hospital during night shifts, ensuring appropriate staffing levels with the right skill mix, supporting colleagues, monitoring standards of care, and ensuring adherence to ACG standards and policies. The role involves managing out-of-hours referrals, liaising with on-call managers and medics, and coordinating admissions. This is a qualified Mental Health Nurse role.

Working Hours:

Monday - Sunday rota, 19:15 - 07:30

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Taking handovers from wards, updating on incidents, staffing, and actions.
  2. Ensuring wards are adequately staffed with appropriate skill, gender, and mix of permanent and agency staff.
  3. Adjusting staffing as needed, using the Matrix system to cover shifts.
  4. Reporting incidents, seclusions, sickness, and absences to compile the Night Report.
  5. Visiting wards throughout the night to ensure observations and colleague alertness.
  6. Completing 24-hour reports, CQC notifications, and other documentation.
  7. Handover to Ward Managers/CTLs in the morning.
  8. Preparing the Night Report, including staffing, incidents, interventions, hospital visits, leave, contractors, and referral updates.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Qualified Mental Health Nurse with 2+ years post-registration experience and active NMC registration.
  • Knowledge of NMC standards, guidelines, and professional practices.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Positive attitude, flexible, and committed to quality care.
  • Good knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
  • Ability to undertake physical requirements of PRICE training.
  • Experience in a duty nurse role or similar senior nursing role preferred, especially in acute inpatient settings.
