Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital

At Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital, the Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager (CANM) is responsible for leading shift operations within the clinical setting to ensure high-quality care, exceptional customer experience, and optimal patient flow. In collaboration with the Department Nursing Operations Manager and the Assistant Nursing Operations Manager (ANOM), the CANM provides guidance, fosters collaboration, and oversees the unit’s clinical operations, including patient care assignments, customer experience, productivity, and quality outcomes in settings where acute care patients receive active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post-interventions with assessment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Exemplar of the mission, vision, and values of Orlando Health.
  2. Participates in shared leadership structure.
  3. Manages staffing assignments for oncoming and outgoing shifts, based on patient acuity and skill set of team members to ensure patient care needs are met.
  4. Coordinates patient flow by working directly with Administrative Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners to achieve expected outcomes.
  5. Monitors overall status of patients within the area of responsibility and closely monitors the status of seriously ill patients.
  6. Coordinates and/or participates in the delivery of patient care, ensuring compliance with physician orders and established policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  7. Serves as a resource supporting frontline team members and providers as appropriate.
  8. Supports clinical collaboration focusing on expected patient length of stay.
  9. Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
  10. Interfaces with patients and families to enhance customer experience by conducting Nurse Leader rounds and investigating/responding to patient, family, and physician complaints.
  11. Participates in and/or leads safety huddles.
  12. Embraces, communicates, and promotes change and problem solving.
  13. Assesses equipment needs to ensure staff have the necessary equipment for patient care and can utilize it appropriately.
  14. Supports and sustains all leader-driven initiatives.
  15. Assists with retention strategies for new team members to foster a positive work environment.
  16. Maintains a regulatory-ready environment of care.
  17. Ensures appropriate staff allocation, including assignment of meal breaks and relief of team members as needed.
  18. Utilizes effective fiscal management skills and resources in decision-making.
  19. Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable laws.
  20. Ensures compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred.

Licensure/Certification:
• Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certification in area of expertise; preferred.
• May require additional certifications based on patient population, such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, or TNCC.

Experience:
• Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse; acute care setting preferred.
