Job summary

NHS Property Services is seeking a skilled maintenance operative to keep a portfolio of NHS sites safe and functional. You will perform planned and reactive carpentry and general building maintenance, diagnose faults, and record work details while collaborating with colleagues and contractors.

The role includes a mix of static and mobile work with a company van, plus an on-call rota. You’ll be part of the South Region Delivery Frontline team, supporting Royal South Hants Hospital and surrounding

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in carpentry and joinery.
• Experience in building maintenance, fabric maintenance or carpentry.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage workload and work independently.
• Understanding of health and safety in a maintenance environment.
• Ability to absorb policy and guidance needed for the role.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across NHS properties.
• Undertake building fabric repairs including carpentry, joinery and general building works.
• Support maintenance across Royal South Hants Hospital and surrounding Southampton sites.
• Ensure work is completed safely and in line with NHSPS policies and health and safety requirements.
• Diagnose faults and identify appropriate repair solutions.
• Maintain accurate records of completed works and maintenance activities.
• Work with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders to deliver excellent customer service.
• Take part in the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support when required.
• Support continuous improvement and help maintain high standards across the estate.
