Start your Social Work career with exceptional support at Swindon.

Beginning your career in children's social work can feel both exciting and daunting. In Swindon, we have designed our Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) Programme to make sure newly qualified social workers feel supported, safe and able to build their confidence in practice.

Our programme offers one of the most supportive and structured pathways for newly qualified social workers in the Southwest.

We are seeking newly qualified social workers who, over the period of their ASYE, will work closely with an experienced Social Worker who will provide them with dedicated development, mentoring and support in relation to the cases assigned to them by their host social work team who will be our Family Safeguarding Team.

Family Safeguarding Team are at the heart of that change, bringing professionals together, focusing on relationships and early help, and helping families make lasting change.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It's why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you will be joining us at an exciting time as we continue to transform services for children and families. We'll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change.

You’ll be supported from day one by a unique structure that gives you access to two managers throughout your first year: your operational manager and a dedicated ASYE assessor. This dual-support model provides a strong support network that helps you build confidence, reflect on your practice and grow into your professional responsibilities at a manageable pace.

Our approach exceeds national expectations and has been developed to ensure that your transition into qualified practice is safe, supported and sustainable. You'll receive regular, high-quality supervision that prioritises your wellbeing, learning and professional development.

Your next role

Our Swindon Practice Academy has been created to celebrate the best in professional practice in Social Work and Social Care Leadership. The Academy demonstrates how Swindon Borough Council supports, develops and values professional practice in Social Work and Social Care through a clear framework of career development and learning opportunities.

We want to make sure that children's social care services are places where excellent social workers are nurtured and talents of social workers are harnessed to the full.

If you are driven by purpose and committed to improving the lives of children, young people and their families, we want to hear from you. This is your opportunity to contribute to meaningful change and be part of a team that truly values your passion and potential.

Please note that registration with Social Work England is required before you begin.

To join us on this journey, you'll need experience that shows your commitment, whether through completed placements in a statutory children's social work setting or through impactful work with children and families in other sectors. This experience is essential and forms the foundation for the important work you will be doing.

You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act "for the effective performance of a customer-facing role").
