Salary: £41,442 – £47,532 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role:

Looking for an experienced Senior Family Support Worker to join the Targeted Early Help Service in Barking & Dagenham. This role is integral in providing targeted support to vulnerable children, young people, and families who require early intervention to prevent escalation into statutory social care.

As a Senior Family Support Worker, you will manage a caseload of complex cases, provide intensive interventions, and support early help assessments, parenting programmes, and multi-agency working. You will also provide mentorship and guidance to junior family support workers, ensuring best practices are upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake comprehensive Early Help Assessments (EHAs) to identify needs, strengths, and risks within families.
  • Develop and implement targeted intervention plans, focusing on positive outcomes for children and families.
  • Work directly with families to address parenting challenges, behavioural concerns, housing difficulties, domestic abuse, and emotional well-being.
  • Deliver evidence-based parenting programmes to support family resilience and stability.
  • Collaborate with social workers, schools, health professionals, police, and community organisations to coordinate effective support.
  • Attend and contribute to Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings, child protection conferences, and multi-agency panels.
  • Advocate for families, ensuring they receive the right support and interventions at the right time.
  • Provide guidance, supervision, and mentoring to junior family support workers, ensuring consistency in best practice.
  • Support the development and training of staff within the Early Help team.
  • Lead on case reviews, reflective practice, and quality assurance to improve service delivery.
  • Monitor family progress, ensuring interventions are timely, effective, and strengths-based.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case records, ensuring compliance with local policies, safeguarding procedures, and statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Targeted Early Help Service, implementing new initiatives where appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Relevant qualification in Social Work, Family Support, Youth Work, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in family support, early help, or safeguarding.
  • Experience in working with vulnerable children and families to prevent the need for statutory interventions.
  • Previous experience in mentoring or supervising staff is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of Early Help Frameworks, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, and Children Act 1989.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with families and deliver evidence-based interventions.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

Why Join Us?

  • Career Progression: This role offers opportunities for development within safeguarding, with access to training and opportunities to progress in your career.
  • Supportive Team: You will be part of a multi-agency team where collaboration is key, and you will be supported to deliver high-quality social work.
  • Impactful Role: Your work will have a direct impact on the safety and wellbeing of children, ensuring they receive the protection and support they need.
  • Competitive Benefits: We offer a competitive salary, flexible working options, generous annual leave, and access to a pension scheme.
