Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Newborn Hearing Screener to deliver high-quality screening in hospital and outpatient settings. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to screen newborns within required timescales and to provide clear information to parents and carers.

You will maintain electronic records, work independently within protocols, and support early identification and intervention for babies with hearing impairment.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (English & Maths) or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 3 in health screening or equivalent.
• Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners in Newborn Hearing Screening.

Responsibilities

• Perform newborn hearing screening tests using approved equipment and protocols.
• Communicate with parents to provide information and reassurance.
• Maintain accurate records on IT systems and databases.
• Refer babies for further assessment per NHSP guidelines.
• Ensure screening equipment is maintained and quality checked.
• Collaborate with midwives, maternity staff and audiology services.
• Prioritise workload to meet programme targets and standards.
• Follow infection prevention and information governance procedures.
