Job summary

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Neurophysiologist to provide expert EEG, EMG and nerve conduction services for adults and children. The role involves interpreting results, contributing to diagnosis, and delivering outpatient clinics across cross-site duties.

The post requires GMC registration and Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or near CCT). There is no on-call commitment and opportunities for teaching, governance involvement and CPD

Qualifications

• MRCP(UK) or equivalent qualification.
• GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Inclusion on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology, or within 6 months of CCT at interview.
• Proven experience in EEG, EMG and nerve conduction studies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• English language to IELTS level 2 minimum, or a UK medical school graduate.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist neurophysiology services including EEG, EMG and nerve conduction studies for adult and paediatric patients
• Interpret and report neurophysiological investigations accurately and promptly
• Deliver routine and prolonged EEG, EMG and nerve conduction studies, with volumes of approximately 1,200 to 1,500 EEGs and 800 to 1,000 EMG/NCS studies a year
• Support diagnosis and management of neurological disorders across the Trust
• Run outpatient neurophysiology clinics and diagnostic reporting sessions, up to six a week
• Take part in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives
• Support teaching and training of medical students, trainees and clinical scientists
• Keep up continuing professional development and meet GMC revalidation requirements
