Portsmouth Water is delighted to have an opening for a Network Technician to join our Network Team. Responsible for conducting a variety of water network field activities, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring safe, first-time resolutions. This role involves both planned and reactive work, addressing performance issues, optimising water supply systems, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position also requires collaboration with teams, asset management, monitoring of water quality, and mentoring other operatives.

What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field-based water network activities within Portsmouth Water's area of supply.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, working collaboratively with teams and stakeholders.
  • Handle planned and reactive work, investigating water network performance (pressure, leakage, metering, supply disruptions).
  • Conduct distribution main isolation, asset verification, and water quality checks (flushing, sampling).
  • Monitor flows, pressures, and water quality (chlorine, turbidity), ensuring safe operations.
  • Operate water assets (valves, hydrants) and perform site assessments using GIS and schematics.
  • Perform site inspections and provide detailed reports to relevant teams.
  • Support office-based teams, prepare equipment, and support fellow operatives.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in out-of-hours standby duties.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Practical experience in the clean water industry field activities.
  • Ideal experience includes pressure/flow, dealing with customer enquiries related to water supply issues, tests, and experience with main isolation, flushing & sampling.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene certification.
  • Valve operations including CALM Networks.
  • NRSWA Operative (Unit 2).
  • IT proficiency including Office365, GIS mapping tools, PDA/Tablet use, and online reporting software.
  • Full UK driving license.
