About the role

At Node4, we deliver exceptional IT solutions that drive business success. We are looking for a skilled and motivated 2nd Line Network Support Engineer to join our team based in Derby.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment where innovation and service excellence are priorities.

As a 2nd Line Network Support Engineer, you will provide advanced support for our customers’ networks, ensuring reliability, security, and high performance. You will work closely with customers and senior engineers to resolve escalated issues, implement configurations, and maintain critical network infrastructure.

You will also participate in a shared on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support as needed to ensure 24/7 availability for our key services and clients, with additional on-call allowance.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 2nd line technical support for network incidents and service requests.
• Diagnose and resolve faults involving routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Configure and troubleshoot hardware from Cisco, Juniper, and Fortinet.
• Support and maintain firewall and security infrastructure.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors and internal teams for issue resolution.
• Maintain accurate documentation and update ticketing systems.
• Assist in network projects and upgrades as needed.

What will you bring?

• Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, and Meraki network equipment.
• Strong understanding of firewall technologies and network security principles.
• Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in support environments.
• Familiarity with networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF, VPNs, VLANs, NAT, etc.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Desirable:

• Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, JNCIA, NSE).
• Experience in managed service providers or ISPs.
• Exposure to monitoring tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.
• Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, SolarWinds, PRTG) and scripting.
• Experience working in an ITIL environment.
