Ocean Red in London is seeking a network operations professional to maintain and scale a low-latency, cloud and on‑premises infrastructure. You’ll focus on reliability, security, and operational excellence across live trading platforms and client connectivity.
The role emphasizes hands‑on routing, switching and firewall work, with opportunities to own changes and participate in capacity planning as you grow within a small expert team.
Company | Technology-led financial markets business
Team | Network Operations, part of a small network infrastructure team
Impact | Keep low-latency trading and security infrastructure reliable, resilient and ready to scale
Environment | Small expert team, live production platforms, cloud and on-premises infrastructure
Skills | Routing, switching, firewalls, OSPF, BGP, packet analysis
Offer | £40k to £60k for CCNA-level engineers with 4 to 6 years' experience, up to £85k for experienced mid-level engineers
Location | London, with occasional data-centre visits
Hours | Shift rota between 06:30 and 18:30, with occasional weekend and bank-holiday cover
You don't need a financial markets background for this. You need solid routing and switching, a working grasp of BGP, and an appetite for operations work on infrastructure where reliability is not theoretical.
You'll join a small network team running a low-latency estate across cloud and on-premises environments. Your work keeps live trading platforms, client connectivity and security services running as they should. Day to day, that means hands-on troubleshooting, planned change and client onboarding. You'll dig into issues using monitoring data, logs and packet captures, work with telecoms providers on circuits and leased lines, and see the result of your work in a live environment.
Operations comes first here, with project work growing as you do. If you want to learn exchange-grade infrastructure from engineers who care about doing things properly, this is a good place to do it.
You’ll also be comfortable working with network monitoring platforms and documenting what you do.
CCNP or ACE-P, hands‑on BGP, financial services experience, Fortinet, firewall cluster policy management, VPNs, Wireshark or tcpdump, PTP, multicast (IGMP, PIM) and Ansible or Python automation would all help, but none is essential.
