Our campus network and data centres are multi-million pound business critical assets, underpinning almost every activity undertaken by our University community. The Network & Data Centres Team plays a vital role in deploying and maintaining a diverse and complex digital environment that supports thousands of students, researchers and staff.

About the Team

As part of the Network & Data Centres Team within IT Services, you will report to the Network Engineer - Operations Coordinator and will help operate and maintain our campus network and data centres which includes:

  • 8,000 network devices, including more than 5,000 wifi access points
  • 70,000 wired outlets and over 25,000 concurrent wifi connections at peak (and growing)
  • More than 300 wiring centres, connected by many kilometres of optical fibre infrastructure
  • Two on campus data centres, hosting business critical platforms and services

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Deploying and maintaining our campus-wide network and data centre infrastructure
  • Working closely with other teams in IT Services and from across the wider University
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with strategic external delivery partners
  • Leading on the operational activities in our campus data centres
  • Providing technical guidance and advice to colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation, standards and operational processes.
About You

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic about delivering high quality, customer focussed network services whilst leading the operational activities in our data centres.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • A sound understanding of network technology and principles, alongside data centre operations.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to technology-based projects, services or change initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data.
  • An ability to respond to a changing environment.
  • A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent professional experience).
