Network Engineer - F5/Checkpoint - Contractor

The senior Network Specialist will deliver operational, maintenance, and project work within our customer's network. Responsibilities include analyzing network performance, remediating operational issues, proactive improvements, and maintenance of F5 and Checkpoint devices, including monitoring them.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Break Fix: Lead incident resolution for faults across managed network estates, focusing on Checkpoint and F5 devices, and document root causes for major incidents.
  2. Capacity Management: Regularly review network requirements and collaborate on solutions.
  3. Lifecycle Management: Maintain device firmware and software versions, support hardware maintenance, and collaborate with infrastructure teams.
  4. Network Configuration: Manage change control, installations, configuration changes, and upgrades, preferably through automation. Review technical change proposals.
  5. Project Delivery: Manage project timelines, collaborate with project and service delivery managers, and coordinate with the network team and wider business for design and operational changes.
  6. Monitoring: Ensure all devices are monitored, alerts are generated, and responses are appropriate, with procedures for different alert categories.
  7. Planning and Organization: Manage and schedule projects of varying scales efficiently.
  8. Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of firewall technologies (preferably Cisco, Checkpoint, F5), routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and network security.
  9. Documentation: Maintain connection diagrams, network diagrams, designs, and knowledge base.
  10. Network Design: Collaborate on designing and implementing new network solutions, representing as a technical authority for Checkpoint and F5 changes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

Essential: Minimum 5 years’ experience as a senior/Tier 3 network engineer; hands-on experience with F5 and Checkpoint technologies; knowledge of routing/switching protocols; detailed network security knowledge.

Desired Behaviours:

  • Strong Checkpoint expertise, possibly with certifications like Checkpoint CCSE and CCSM.
