Job summary

Metropolitan Thames Valley seeks a Network Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team in London. You will design, build and deploy network solutions to support surveillance and policing activities, working in a workshop-based, collaborative environment with a team of around 50 engineers.

You will handle network equipment, monitor performance, and resolve complex issues while maintaining Linux systems and scripting automation. Occasional after-hours work and SC clearance are possible requirements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience installing, configuring and supporting network equipment.
• Monitoring network performance and resolving complex connectivity issues.
• Willingness to obtain SC clearance (SC(e)).
• Full UK driving license and willingness to obtain C1/D1 where needed.
• Flexibility to support operational demand, including occasional hours outside standard times.
• Knowledge of CCTV IP systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and support network equipment to ensure reliable operations.
• Monitor performance, diagnose issues and resolve complex connectivity problems.
• Support CCTV IP infrastructure and integrate with video management systems.
• Collaborate with infrastructure engineers to design and implement secure network solutions.
• Maintain Linux servers (Ubuntu/Debian) and automate repetitive tasks with scripts.
• Demonstrate flexibility to work outside normal hours when required.

Job description

As a Network Engineer, you'll be joining a friendly and collaborative team of around 50 engineers responsible for designing, developing, building and deploying a wide range of technical solutions, primarily supporting surveillance and operational policing activities. Within this wider function, you'll work as part of the Infrastructure Team, a specialist group of 10 engineers with a passion for networking, communications and infrastructure technologies. We are seeking a Network Engineer to support the delivery and ongoing development of specialist network technology across London. You will work with a range of network technologies, specialist equipment and secure systems. Although primarily a workshop-based role, operational demand may require occasional work outside standard business hours. Due to the sensitivity of the systems you will support, you must hold or be willing to obtain SC(e) security clearance.

• Experience with Video Management Systems (Flir Latitude, Milestone, Genetec, NX Witness)
