At Severn Trent, we're embarking on an exciting £415m project to replace 870 miles of old water pipes across the Midlands. This is the biggest investment in water infrastructure in the region in a decade, set to improve water quality, reduce leaks, and make water supply more reliable for millions of people. The new pipes installed will last up to 100 years.

We are creating new jobs across the region, based in Birmingham, Nottingham, or anywhere in between. We have opportunities for you to help shape the future of water in the Midlands.

We are looking for a Network Construction Engineer to work as part of a team to successfully deliver Mains Renewal construction activities for a specific site within one of the four regions (North, South, East, West).

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Network Construction Engineer (Technician) will operate assets on the network on behalf of the construction team while carrying out large-scale Mains Renewal work at specific locations.

You will support the Network Construction Manager in the scoping and delivery of Mains Renewal schemes within your area of responsibility and work alongside the Lead Operative to deliver on-site activities.

You will undertake significant construction activities on-site, including excavation, installation, testing, and commissioning of new mains and assets.

This role involves delivering large-scale construction work with significant potential risks, aiming to complete work within set budgets alongside the Network Control Manager.

This role requires a 42-hour work week, Monday to Friday, starting at 7:30 AM and ending at 4:30 PM, with a half-hour early finish at 4:00 PM on Fridays.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct pre-site checks with the Network Construction Manager, identify and assess key assets for risk management, and perform detailed surveys on DMA renewal options.
  2. Communicate with Network Control during critical scheme stages, support the Lead Operative in construction activities such as pipe fusing, service laying, and overlanding.
  3. Perform valving due diligence, chlorination, and sampling of mains and services following SOPs and SSOW.
  4. Carry out operational activities like flushing, cleansing, and overseeing the installation of pressure control valves, managing pressure, flow, and disinfection, including both low and high-risk valve operations.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

The ideal candidate will have a full driving license, preferably with Water Hygiene and NRSWA certifications, and significant utility industry experience.

You should possess good communication skills, the ability to build successful relationships, and experience in risk identification and opportunity recognition.

We value character, positivity, and a caring attitude equally with skills and experience. We welcome diversity and encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply and make a difference.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Working here is more than just a job; it’s a career with rewards. We offer various benefits, award-winning training, and opportunities to contribute to environmental and community well-being.

Some perks include:

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (option to buy/sell up to 5 days)
  • Annual bonus scheme (up to £1,500 based on performance)
  • Enhanced pension scheme (company doubles your contribution up to 15%)
  • Sharesave scheme at discounted rates
  • Training and development through our ‘Academy’
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Two volunteering days per year
  • Opportunity to earn up to an additional £10,000 per year through Mains Renewal incentive scheme
