Job summary

Northern Powergrid invites applications for Works Coordinators to join the Domestic and Small Business Connections team. You will coordinate and manage connections and service upgrades for Low Carbon Technology, based at one of our depots with location confirmed during recruitment.

We expect strong customer service, safety, and project management skills. The role involves evening/weekend appointments, and a starting salary of £39,923 with progression to £51,396.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs Maths and English at C/5 or above.
  • ONC/HNC in Electrical Engineering or pursuing this qualification.
  • Experience in project management or similar roles.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and manage varied connection projects safely and to time, cost and quality.
  • Direct labour and contractors, ensuring effective site management.
  • Communicate with customers and stakeholders to deliver a 10/10 service.
  • Assist with weekly contract meetings and payments processing.

Candidates will be invited to provide a video interview from 1st September to 6th September.

Should you be successful, you will be invited to a face to face Assessment Centre which will be carried out between 28th September and 23rd October.

Successful candidates will be notified following the Assessment Centre at the end of October / early November.

These vacancies have a planned start date of the 11th January 2027.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic Works Coordinators to join our Domestic and Small Business Connections team.

We have several vacancies available across Northern Powergrid's operating area. Successful candidates will be based at one of our operational depots, with location confirmed during the recruitment process.

Works Co-ordinators are responsible for the planning, management and delivery of connections and connection service upgrade works, to meet the needs of our customers installing Low Carbon Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works coordination and management of varied projects safely and to time, cost and quality.
  • Effective Site management of resources, including direct labour and contractors.
  • Able to prioritise workload, make decisions and identify cost effective delivery solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, Low Carbon Technology providers and stakeholders delivering a 10/10 service.
  • Support weekly operational contract meetings with external service providers.
  • Process applications for payment in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Carry out site audits in respect of safety, quality and contractual obligations.
  • Order materials for use by service providers.
  • Create electronic job packs to accurately convey delivery of works.
  • Manage all aspects of outage planning for your allocated projects.
  • Work flexibility to attend evening and weekend customer appointments when required to meet the expectations of our customers.

Starting salary: £39,923,with progression to £51,396 (Ind L3 pp7-12)

Does this sound like you?:

  • Customer Service – Have the ability to demonstrate what great customer service looks like and how this can be applied to the provision of our connection's service.
  • Electrical Testing - Experience on domestic and/or industrial low voltage equipment to enable testing& interpretation of results.
  • Effective Communicator – Be able to adapt your communication style to your audience, show empathy and build rapport, working well with our customers/stakeholders both internally and externally, in person, over the phone and via written communication.
  • Excellent Project Management Skills – Be able to plan, organise and manage competing priorities of varying levels of complexity, using your own initiative.
  • Team Player – Have a strong team working ethic. Be someone who works well in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to deliver results and maintain a quality customer service.
  • Problem Solving – Have the ability to work through more complex situations, whilst identifying solutions, to ensure jobs are effectively delivered on time, to cost and meeting the needs of the customer.
  • People Management Skills – Ability to liaise effectively, influence and build up strong working relationships with contractors, stakeholders and customers to deliver the activity required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Maths and English at GCSE grade C/5 or above
  • IT skills including use of Microsoft applications specifically Word & Excel
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of the electricity distribution network
  • Hold a full clean UK Driving Licence

Other beneficial attributes/experience:

  • Possess an ONC/HNC in Electrical Engineering or prepared to be working towards this qualification
  • Hold an ILM Level 3 or NEBOSH equivalent
  • Experience Project Management in other utility or construction sectors
  • An Electrical Trade / Engineering Background
  • Detailed knowledge of LV and HV electricity networks
  • Knowledge in IT systems such as CRM, QPID, ISMART
