Job summary

Northern Powergrid is seeking enthusiastic Connections Technicians to join our Domestic and Small Business Connections team. You will be based at an operational depot with start dates in January 2027.

The role involves managing customer experiences, planning connection routes, and coordinating with contractors to deliver LV projects. Starting salary ranges with progression and benefits, including a pension, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, and transport provision.

Qualifications

  • Maths and English at GCSE grade C/5 or above.
  • IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Hold a Full clean UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Manage customer experience from quotation to delivery of connections works.
  • Design cost-effective connection routes from site engagements.
  • Plan and co-ordinate, with contractors, the execution of LV projects.
  • Oversee service providers to ensure resources meet timelines and budget.
  • Deliver projects to required quality and safety standards.
  • Provide timely status updates across all workstreams.
  • Perform remedial work to ensure 10/10 customer experience.
  • Be flexible to attend evening/weekend appointments.

Candidates will be invited to provide a video interview from 1st September to 6th September.

Should you be successful, you will be invited to a face-to-face Assessment Centre which will be carried out between 28th September and 23rd October.

Successful candidates will be notified following the Assessment Centre at the end of October / early November.

These vacancies have a planned start date of the 11th January 2027.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic Connections Technicians to join our Domestic and Small Business Connections team.

We have several vacancies available across Northern Powergrid's operating area. Successful candidates will be based at one of our operational depots, with location confirmed during the recruitment process.

The energy industry is advancing with investment in smart technology innovation and Northern Powergrid, as the company responsible for powering everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the Northeast, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is at the forefront of delivering a power network that meets the region’s needs, now and in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the customer experience through the quotation and delivery of connections works.
  • Designing cost-effective connection routes through information gained during site engagements.
  • Planning and Co-ordination – Managing, alongside contractors, the execution of a variety of customer driven LV projects.
  • Service Provider Oversight – Liaising with service providers to ensure correct resources are in place to enable projects to be completed on time and within budget expectations.
  • Project delivery – Ensuring that customer driven projects are delivered to the required quality and safety standards, meeting business objectives and other project success criteria.
  • Reporting – Provide timely and accurate updates on the status and progress of work in all required workstreams.
  • Undertake any remedial work following stages of the project lifecycle to ensure that you have fulfilled the 10/10 experience for the customer.
  • Work flexibility to attend evening and weekend customer appointments when required to meet the expectations of our customers.

Starting salary: £39,923,with progression to £51,396 (Industrial L3 pp7 – 12)

Does this sound like you?

  • Customer Service – Have the ability to demonstrate what great customer service looks like and how this can be applied to the provision of our connection's service.
  • Electrical Testing - Experience on domestic and/or industrial low voltage equipment to enable testing &interpretation of results.
  • Effective Communicator – Be able to adapt your communication style to your audience, show empathy and build rapport, working well with our customers/stakeholders both internally and externally, in person, over the phone and via written communication.
  • Excellent Project Management Skills – Be able to plan, organise and manage competing priorities of varying levels of complexity, using your own initiative.
  • Team Player – Have a strong team working ethic. Be someone who works well in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to deliver results and maintain a quality customer service.
  • Problem Solving – Have the ability to work through more complex situations, whilst identifying solutions, to ensure jobs are effectively delivered on time, to cost and meeting the needs of the customer.
  • People Management Skills – Ability to liaise effectively, influence and build up strong working relationships with contractors, stakeholders and customers to deliver the activity required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Maths and English at GCSE grade C/5 or above
  • IT skills including use of Microsoft applications specifically Word & Excel
  • Hold a Full clean UK driving licence

Other beneficial attributes/experience:

  • Possess an ONC/HNC in Electrical Engineering or prepared to be working towards this qualification
  • Basic understanding of the power distribution network
  • Proven experience of project or financial management for delivering work within time and budget
  • Understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental management IOSH
  • Current/Previous authorisation on the power distribution network
