Job description

Position Summary:-

Applus+ is seeking an NDT Technician to perform non-destructive testing and inspection activities using approved NDT techniques in accordance with company, client, and industry standards, procedures, and acceptance criteria.

The position is assigned to the EDF Energy contract at Torness Power Station, supporting inspection and integrity activities across site operations. The NDT Technician will work as part of the Applus+ team and ensure that inspection activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with EDF, nuclear industry, and Applus+ requirements, procedures, and safety standards.

The role is responsible for supporting the timely delivery of inspection services while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, technical accuracy, and professionalism.

Responsibilities:-
  • Carry out day-to-day inspection activities using approved NDT methods and welding inspection techniques in accordance with client and company requirements.
  • Ensure inspection activities are completed safely, effectively, and to the required quality standards while meeting project deadlines and client expectations.
  • Maintain regular communication with Site Managers, Supervisors, and Project Managers regarding work progress, inspection findings, and operational issues.
  • Complete and submit timesheets, inspection records, and associated documentation accurately and within required timescales.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, client specifications, industry standards, and legislative requirements relating to conventional and advanced NDT techniques.
  • Verify that inspection equipment, consumables, and calibration certificates are current and suitable for use before commencing work.
  • Produce accurate and professional inspection reports in accordance with company quality procedures and the Applus+ NDT Reporting Procedure.
  • Submit reports and technical documentation within agreed timescales and maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Support project delivery by ensuring work is performed efficiently and within budgetary constraints.
  • Assist with the training, coaching, and development of less experienced technicians and trainees when required.
  • Provide management with copies of newly obtained qualifications and certifications promptly upon achievement.
  • Adhere to the requirements of the Inspector Declaration and uphold the principles of independence, impartiality, and integrity during inspection activities.
  • Comply with the Letter of Authorisation and undertake only activities for which the required authorisation has been granted.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by management.
Qualifications:-
Essential Qualifications and Experience:-
  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
  • Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT 3.1 & 3.2)
  • Radiographic Testing (RT), where applicable.
  • CTC Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering NDT inspection services within industrial environments.
  • Documented evidence of training and practical experience as required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate technical reports and inspection documentation.
  • Full UK driving licence, where operationally required.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:-
  • Additional PCN, SNT-TC-1A, or CSWIP certifications.
  • Welding inspection experience.
  • Rope Access certification, where applicable.
  • Knowledge of Applus+ services, systems, and operational procedures.
  • Experience in the energy, oil and gas, renewables, petrochemical, or industrial sectors.
Requirements:-
  • The NDT Technician must perform inspection activities in accordance with applicable company, client, industry, and legislative requirements.
  • Inspection equipment, consumables, and calibration certificates must be verified as current and suitable before use.
  • The position requires compliance with the requirements of the Inspector Declaration, including independence, impartiality, and integrity.
  • The technician must work only within the activities covered by the applicable Letter of Authorisation.
  • The position requires active compliance with company and client HSEQ policies, procedures, and standards.
  • The technician must maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
  • Hazards, near misses, unsafe acts, and incidents must be identified and reported.
  • Required PPE must be worn and maintained.
  • Mandatory training relating to health, safety, quality, information security, and data confidentiality must be completed.
  • Company and client information must be securely handled, stored, and disposed of.
  • Actual or suspected information security breaches, vulnerabilities, or threats must be reported in accordance with company procedures.
