Overall, Purpose of Role:
The Aviation Non-Destructive Test Technician Level 2 will be responsible for the day-to-day performance of NDT inspections on Aircraft and components in accordance with their Applus UK approvals. They will work to customer, supplier, and OEM inspection data to provide timely and high-quality inspections for customers both in house and on site, involving frequent travel to domestic and international customer sites, while maintaining and championing Applus+ core values.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
The Roles and Responsibilities of the Aviation NDT Technician will include but not be limited to:
- Conduct NDT inspections of customer aircraft and components in line with agreed priorities, controlling documents, and customer work instructions.
- Conduct essential contract reviews prior to progressing work orders.
- Ensure all relevant Health & Safety, Quality, and Technical procedures are complied with, and be accountable for all aspects of their work assignments to ensure the safe and effective completion of work on time.
- For all instruments used or which are under their responsibility, ensure all relevant calibration, control, and maintenance checks are performed and recorded.
- Certify all work correctly in accordance with customer purchase order requirements.
- Complete accurate job packs and timesheets for timely distribution to team administrators and the Aviation Team Leader /Aviation Operations Manager upon completion of the task, including relevant invoicing information and technical records.
- As demanded by the Aviation industry, will provide the highest quality inspection service to assure our customers have a sense of trust and security.
- Provide customers with all necessary documentation following inspection (e.g. Form 1 release for EASA, CAA, or FAA, and Applus NDT test reports) and will present themselves to the customer as per Applus internal Quality procedures.
- Support customer site work both domestically and internationally.
- Available for reasonable overseas travel when required to support our customers.
- During busy seasons, able to work a night shift on rotation with other members of the team.
- Able to work a weekend on-call on rotation with other members of the team.
- Report on any matters which may have a significant impact on department performance directly to the Aviation Team Leader/Operations Manager.
- Take a risk averse approach and interrupt or discontinue work if aviation safety or that of others is at risk.
- Perform all tasks in compliance with company procedures, policies and associated regulatory requirements, including Safety and Information Security. Proactively report any information security issues (suspected or actual) including events, incidents, vulnerabilities and threats using the company occurrence reporting system.
- Proactively report safety issues including hazards, errors and fatigue issues using the company occurrence reporting system.
- Be vigilant and remain aware of information security risks in day-to-day activities.
- Take part in initial and recurrent training and take note of the lessons learned from incidents and accidents.
- Participate in briefings, meetings, events and promotion programmes.
- Participate in company Emergency Response Plans.
- Adopt the ownership of HSEQ responsibility through their working practices to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with clients.
- Support the implementation of continuous improvement and cost saving initiatives within their facility and assist the Aviation Operations Manager in initiatives.
- Take on a reasonable level of ownership over equipment, legal compliance, safety, or other operational requirements.
Qualifications and Experiences
- Hold at least 1 approval in Eddy Current, Ultrasonic, or Radiography qualified and certified in accordance with EN4179/NAS410 Level 2 or alternative standards/guidelines accepted by the applicable National Aviation Authority.
- Minimum of 12 months practical experience in NDT maintenance as Level 2.
- Understand principles of Foreign Object Damage / Debris (FOD), product safety, Counterfeit, Fraudulent, Suspect Items (CFSI), and Fraudulent Activity.
- Good command of verbal and written English.
- Integrity and a responsible attitude maintainable under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy during testing and process control activities.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (or equivalent) applications, particularly Excel and Word.
- Has a minimum of 2 years aeronautical experience within Aviation Maintenance in a Part 145 environment.
- Hold additional approvals in Eddy Current, Ultrasonic, or Radiography qualified and certified in accordance with EN4179/NAS410 or alternative standards/guidelines accepted by the applicable National Aviation Authority.
- Hold approvals in Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, or Thermography Inspections qualified and certified in accordance with EN4179/NAS410 or alternative standards/guidelines accepted by the applicable National Aviation Authority.
- Holds or held additional current or lapsed NDT certification.
- Able to provide evidence that they have been working during the last 5 years.
- Knowledge of NADCAP, ISO9001, and AS9100 standards.
- IOSHH or other recognised Health and Safety training.
- Radiation safety experience.
- Current regulatory training, including Human Factors, Safety Management Systems, Fuel Tank Safety and Aviation Legislation.
- Training in and understanding of Cybersecurity and Information Security Principles.
