Job summary

Applus+ is seeking an NDT Technician for a fixed-term contract based in Croydon. The role requires 36 hours per week across four days with flexibility on days worked, performing non-destructive testing using MPI, DPI, UT and related NDT methods.

The technician will produce inspection reports, ensure compliance with procedures and safety requirements, and support junior staff while maintaining equipment calibration and adherence to client and legislative standards.

Qualifications

  • PCN Level 2 MPI and DPI certifications required.
  • PCN Level 2 UT or other Level 2 PCN certifications required.
  • Documentary evidence of training and on-the-job experience per SNT-TC-1A and BS EN ISO 9712.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day inspections using NDT methods as per client requirements.
  • Produce written inspection reports and ensure they are submitted to clients within agreed timescales.
  • Maintain equipment calibration and ensure PPE and safety requirements are followed.
  • Keep management informed of job status, progress and any issues.
  • Assist with training and development of less experienced staff.

Position Summary:

Applus+ is seeking an NDT Technician for a fixed-term contract running until December 2026. The position is based in Croydon and requires 36 hours of work per week across four days, with flexibility regarding the days worked.

The NDT Technician will be responsible for carrying out non-destructive examination activities using the required techniques in accordance with relevant company and client-supplied procedures and acceptance criteria. The role involves working with clients, colleagues, and management while ensuring inspections are completed safely, effectively, and in accordance with applicable requirements.

The position reports to the Base Manager, General Manager, Site Manager, or Supervisor.

Responsibilities:
  • Carry out day-to-day inspections using welding inspection and NDT methods to the satisfaction of the client.
  • Keep the Site Manager or General Manager informed about job status and progress.
  • Take accountability for assigned activities and projects to ensure their safe and effective completion on time and within budget.
  • Maintain timesheets and all necessary paperwork.
  • Stay up to date with current company, client, and legislative requirements affecting conventional and advanced NDT techniques.
  • Conduct all work in accordance with applicable company, client, and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure equipment and consumables are within their calibration dates before use.
  • Produce written inspection reports in accordance with company quality control procedures.
  • Ensure inspection reports within the technician's responsibilities are produced and submitted to clients within the required timeframe.
  • Follow the Applus+ NDT Reporting Procedure.
  • Assist with the training and development of less experienced staff.
  • Provide management with signed copies of new certifications when achieved.
  • Understand and adhere to the Inspector Declaration Form and its requirements concerning independence, impartiality, and integrity.
  • Understand and comply with the Letter of Authorisation Acknowledgement and associated Letter of Authorisation.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications:
  • PCN Level 2 certification in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI).
  • Documentary evidence of completed training and minimum on-the-job experience in accordance with SNT-TC-1A and BS EN ISO 9712.
  • PCN Level 2 certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and/or other Level 2 PCN certifications.
  • Knowledge of services provided by Applus UK.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work 36 hours per week across four days.
  • Ability to commute to the Croydon office or travel for the opportunity.
  • Ability to maintain equipment and consumables within required calibration dates.
  • Ability to comply with company, client, legislative, quality, HSEQ, physical security, and information security requirements.
  • Appropriate PPE must be utilized at all times.
  • Ability to complete company-assigned training on information security and data confidentiality.
