Job summary

TWI Ltd is seeking an experienced Deputy Technical Manager to support the new Inspection Qualification Services unit in Middlesbrough. You will provide Level 3 expertise across qualification activities and ensure ISO 17020 compliance, balancing technical, operational and customer requirements.

The role requires a strong background in NDT, nuclear/defence sectors, and the ability to lead in a regulated environment with effective communication to regulators and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two NDT Level 3 certifications in accordance with ISO 9712 (e.g. CSWIP or PCN).
• Ultrasonic techniques (UT, PAUT) essential; eddy current (ET) highly desirable.
• Strong technical knowledge of NDT and its application within regulated industries.
• Experience in nuclear, defence or other high-integrity sectors.
• Experience supporting or delivering complex technical projects.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure activities comply with ISO 17020 and maintain independence and integrity.
• Act as Technical Authority applying Level 3 expertise to qualification activities.
• Cover Technical Manager duties in their absence.
• Review incoming work for required technical capability and resources.
• Oversee inspection and qualification activities for compliance and procedures.
• Contribute to development and maintenance of the management system and documentation.
• Support audits and address non-conformances promptly.
• Provide technical input to proposals, including scope and costings.
• Develop business opportunities through technical engagement with customers.
