Job summary

Babcock in Plymouth invites graduates to join a two-year Materials Engineering Graduate Programme. You’ll rotate through Metallurgy, Welding Design and NDT, supporting submarine and surface ship programmes through design, build, operation and decommissioning phases.

You’ll receive structured training, mentorship, and access to expert-led masterclasses while working toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status. Base location is Plymouth with potential placements elsewhere.

Qualifications

• Achieve or be on track to achieve a BEng/MEng/BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing, Welding, Metallurgy, Fabrication, Aerospace or Naval Architecture.

Responsibilities

• Support UK defence programmes applying materials science, welding engineering and metallurgy.
• Participate in design, build, operation and decommissioning stages of naval platforms.
• Gain exposure to advanced engineering environments within the UK defence sector.
• Complete placements across Metallurgy, Welding Design and Non-Destructive Testing.
• Attend base location in person up to five days per week to learn from mentors.
• Pursue professional registration with guidance on BPSS, Security Check and NNPI clearance.
