Job summary

Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) is seeking a Naval Overseer to provide on-site technical oversight of ship construction and trials at the Scotstoun shipyard in Glasgow. You will ensure compliance with contractual, technical and quality standards while mitigating delivery risks and supporting decision-making.

The role offers hands-on sea trial exposure and engagement with government and industry partners.

Qualifications

Hold IEng or IMarEng registration or an equivalent professional registration.
Experience delivering maritime projects or ship/offshore structures work.
Ability to provide technical advice and lead delivery of electrical system outcomes.

Responsibilities

Lead professional engineering oversight of ship construction and trials, representing MOD/ NAB group in the shipyard.
Coordinate on-site assurance and inspection activities, identifying defects and progress issues.
Provide leadership in applying engineering judgement and making clear recommendations to maintain delivery tempo.
Lead or support acceptance and assurance activities, including inspections, tests and readiness events.
Build and maintain relationships with industry partners, ship staff and MOD stakeholders.
Set a positive example for safety, compliance and professionalism in shipyard environments.
