Job summary

NatureScot advertises an Apprentice National Nature Reserve Officer in Dumfries for an 18‑month placement. You will join a team managing reserves, training on the Land and Nature Apprenticeship pathway, and learning on the job with partners and training providers.

Based in Dumfries, you will work on Caerlaverock NNR, Cairnsmore of Fleet NNR and Kirkconnell Flow, gaining hands-on experience in habitat management, estate tasks, monitoring and community engagement.

Qualifications

• This apprenticeship provides practical field experience while completing the Land and Nature Apprenticeship pathway.
• Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK and be resident in Scotland for the duration.
• Be prepared to attend off-the-job training and have a positive attitude toward on-the-job learning.

Responsibilities

• Gain practical skills in habitat and species management and reserve operations.
• Assist with estate duties including fencing, path work, and maintenance.
• Support events, volunteers and public engagement at reserves.
• Develop project management and financial awareness related to reserves.
