Job summary

Fleetwood Museum Trust is seeking a creative, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the team at Fleetwood Museum. The role offers 20 hours per week with a pro rata salary of £24,531 and potential for hours to increase subject to funding.

Working closely with the Museum Manager, you will support day-to-day operations, help care for collections, and contribute to research, interpretation projects and learning programmes.

Fleetwood Museum Trust is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the team at Fleetwood Museum.

This is a varied role offering the successful applicant the opportunity to gain experience of museum work in its full variety. Working closely with the Museum Manager, you will support the day-to-day operation of the museum, help manage and care for the museum’s collections, contribute to research and interpretation project work, and assist with the planning and delivery of learning programmes and outreach events. In addition to this, there will be opportunities to contribute to funding applications, marketing, and digital engagement strategies.

Although the postholder will be expected to support the museum’s existing objectives and commitments, we are also looking for someone who can bring their own ideas, interests and perspectives to the role. In other words, there is scope for the Museum Assistant to specialise in a particular aspect of museum work whilst supporting the Manager to carry out core duties. Please state in your covering letter if there is a particular aspect of museum work that interests you.

Previous experience in a museum, gallery or heritage organisation would be an advantage but is not essential. We welcome applications from candidates who have developed transferable skills in other sectors, particularly in areas such as digital design, marketing, communications, learning or community engagement.

This is initially a part-time post of 20 hours per week, with the potential for hours to increase in the future, subject to funding and the operational needs of the museum. There is some flexibility over working days and daily start and finish times, which will be agreed with the successful applicant.
