Job summary

Shillito Group in Sheffield is seeking a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer to oversee maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of our facilities and equipment. You will ensure safe operation, minimise downtime, and drive efficiency.

The role covers preventive and reactive maintenance, troubleshooting across mechanical and electrical systems, managing spares, and collaborating with production and safety teams.

Qualifications

• Engineering apprenticeship and ONC/HNC in electrical/mechanical engineering.
• Experience in manufacturing environment with both mechanical and electrical maintenance.
• 18th edition wiring regulations.
• Experience with preventive and reactive maintenance.
• Ability to review and develop SOPs.
• Experience conducting risk assessments and using Safe Systems of Work (SSWs).
• Willingness to learn, develop and adapt.
• Excellent customer service, communication and teamwork skills.
• Lean or Six Sigma qualification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for equipment and facilities.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and perform timely repairs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and equipment; manage procurement as needed.
• Monitor and improve equipment performance using KPIs such as MTTR and MTBF.
• Collaborate with production, safety, and engineering teams to support operational goals.
• Manage maintenance budgets and prepare reports for management review.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment uptime and reduce costs.
• Oversee facilities maintenance including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and utilities.
• Record all work undertaken including trend analysis of key parts stock.
• Carry out or organise general repairs/oversee routine property plant maintenance.
• Facilitate / support Lean Manufacturing and operational Excellence implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for equipment and facilities.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and provide timely repairs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and equipment; manage procurement as needed.
• Monitor and improve equipment performance using KPIs such as MTTR (Mean time to repair) and MTBF(Mean time between failures)
• Collaborate with production, safety, and engineering teams to support operational goals.
• Manage maintenance budgets and prepare reports for management review.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment uptime and reduce costs.
• Oversee facilities maintenance including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and utilities (as applicable).
• Responsible for the recording of all work undertaken including analysis of trends key parts stock
• To carry out or organise general repairs/oversee routine property plant maintenance
• Facilitate / support Lean Manufacturing and operational Excellence implementation

Required skills

• Recognised engineering apprenticeship and ONC / HNC (or equivalent) in electrical/mechanical engineering
• Demonstrable proven experience in a manufacturing environment in both mechanical and electrical maintenance
• 18th edition wiring regulations
• Experience doing both total preventative and reactive maintenance
• Competence to review existing SOP'S and develop new ones.
• Experienced in carrying out Risk Assessments and utilising SSW's.
• Willingness and capability to learn develop and adapt.
• Excellent customer service skills, ensuring positive interactions with internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills
• A Team player with good inter-personnel skills
• Lean or 6 sigma qualification (desirable)
