Job summary

A leading food manufacturing business in Gateshead is seeking a Multiskilled Maintenance Technician to join its engineering team. The role focuses on maintaining production machinery, site services and improving reliability across the facility.

You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, fault-find electrical and mechanical equipment, and support improvement projects while keeping accurate CMMS records. A proactive, safety-conscious teammate with good communication will thrive here.

Qualifications

• Time-served engineering apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification.
• Experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
• Strong fault-finding in electrical and mechanical areas.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned preventive maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs.
• Fault finding and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Supporting continuous improvement and equipment modification projects.
• Completing maintenance records using the CMMS system.
• Assisting with risk assessments and permit-to-work activities.
• Supporting root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
• Ordering and managing engineering spare parts when required.
• Working closely with production to maximise machine availability.
• Ensuring all engineering activities comply with health and safety legislation.
• Contributing to a proactive engineering culture focused on reliability and continuous improvement.

Job Description:

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining production machinery and site services to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime across the manufacturing facility.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Knowledge of CMMS or planned maintenance systems
• Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures
• A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
