Job summary

Vickerstock are partnering with a leading food manufacturing organisation to appoint a Mechanical Engineer responsible for maintaining and improving production equipment on a fast-paced site. You will diagnose faults, provide hands-on mechanical support and drive improvements across the plant.

As a time-served engineer, you will manage planned maintenance, repairs, and reliability initiatives while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Time-served Mechanical Engineer with industrial experience.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience carrying out mechanical maintenance in manufacturing/industrial environments.
  • Strong experience in welding and fabrication.
  • Experience working with mechanical drive systems.
  • Good knowledge of maintenance and fault-finding techniques.
  • Ability to make confident decisions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance across production equipment and machinery.
  • Complete hands-on mechanical repairs, welding and fabrication as required.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults to minimise production downtime.
  • Work with mechanical drive systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Re-engineer and modify equipment to improve reliability, efficiency and performance.
  • Provide technical support and advice to production teams.
  • Complete maintenance documentation accurately and in line with company procedures.
  • Respond effectively to breakdowns and prioritise repairs based on production requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the production environment.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in line with Health & Safety requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Engineering and Production teams to maintain high levels of plant availability.
  • Take ownership of maintenance issues and use strong problem-solving skills to identify effective solutions.

Working as part of the Engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving production equipment across a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will provide hands-on mechanical support, diagnose faults and contribute to continuous improvement across the site.
