Job summary

Manpower (United Kingdom) is recruiting for a reliable Multi-Skilled Dock Operative / Stevedore to support busy port operations in Hull. The role involves hands-on cargo handling across vessels, quaysides, terminals and storage facilities, ensuring safe and efficient movement of cargo and smooth vessel turnaround.

The successful candidate will direct crane operators, liaise with vessel crews and dockside teams, and follow health and safety regulations to maintain high standards of operation.

Qualifications

• Experience in stevedoring, port cargo handling, or similar operations.
• Physically demanding role requiring manual handling.
• Willingness to undertake CHIPS qualification and any additional training.
• Ability to work safely in fast-paced environments and follow health and safety procedures.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexible approach to working hours, including shifts between 6:00 and 22:00.

Responsibilities

• Work within vessel holds during cargo loading and discharge operations, supervising cargo movements.
• Direct crane operators using hand signals and radio to position, load, and discharge cargo.
• Coordinate cargo handling activities and allocate tasks to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Liaise with supervisors, vessel crews, and dockside teams per cargo plans and vessel requirements.
• Ensure compliance with shipboard procedures, plans, and health and safety regulations.
• Perform shore-side cargo handling across quaysides, terminals, and yard areas.
• Assist with loading, unloading, transfer, securing, and storage of diverse cargo types.
• Move cargo between vessels, warehouses, and onward transport as needed.
• Undertake general dockside labouring duties to support operations.
