Multisite Medical Oncologist – Acute Care & Research Lead

Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust seeks a Consultant in Oncology to deliver a comprehensive oncology service across site-specialised cancer teams including colorectal, gynaecology, breast, lung and urology. You will work within multidisciplinary teams, supervise junior medical staff and contribute to service development and research.

The role requires GMC registration and entry on the Specialist Register via CCT or CESR; out-of-hours on-call and acute oncology cover are core duties

Qualifications

• MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
• Higher medical qualification, e.g. MRCP.
• FRCR (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent for medical oncology.

Responsibilities

• Provide a comprehensive oncology service and oncology expertise in managing and developing site-specialised cancer services, collaborating with department colleagues
• Work with and support established site-specific multidisciplinary teams
• Take part in the out of hours service and provide acute oncology service
• Liaise with surgeons, physicians and staff in other specialties across the Trust
• Provide cover for consultant colleagues' leave
• Supervise and manage junior medical staff
• Undertake teaching, examination and accreditation duties, and contribute to postgraduate and continuing education locally and nationally
• Undertake clinical audit and continuing medical education, contribute to annual appraisal and complete an annual job planning review
• Undertake research, including clinical trial participation
• Work across the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and community sites across the county
• Develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in assessing and managing acutely ill patients

Education

MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical qualification

MRCP
