Job summary

STAR SLA in Liverpool is seeking a Multi-Skills Construction Tutor to plan, deliver, and assess practical and classroom training across construction trades, aligned with relevant UK standards and qualifications.

The role is full-time and on-site at our Liverpool campus, with responsibilities including developing lesson plans, supervising workshops, assessing learners, and maintaining accurate records. Collaboration with colleagues and external partners is essential.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated practical experience across multiple construction trades and knowledge of current industry standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring with ability to plan lessons and adapt to learners’ needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build rapport and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage materials, records, and assessments; meet reporting deadlines.
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification is highly desirable.

Job description

The Multi-Skills Construction Tutor is a full-time, on-site role based in Liverpool. The tutor will plan, deliver, and assess practical and classroom-based training across a range of construction trades, such as basic carpentry, brickwork, plumbing, and general building techniques, aligned with relevant UK standards and qualifications.

Day-to-day tasks include preparing lesson plans and learning resources, teaching the safe use of tools and materials, supervising practical workshop activities, and monitoring learner progress through assessments and constructive feedback. The tutor will support learners with varying abilities and backgrounds, promote safe working practices at all times, and maintain accurate records of attendance, achievement, and progression. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues to improve course content, participating in quality assurance activities, and engaging with external partners or employers where appropriate.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Demonstrated practical experience across multiple construction trades (e.g. carpentry, bricklaying, basic plumbing, general maintenance) and a strong knowledge of current industry standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring, with the ability to plan lessons, deliver engaging instruction, and adapt teaching methods to meet different learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with learners, manage group dynamics, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage course materials, maintain learner portfolios and records, and meet assessment and reporting deadlines.
  • Relevant construction-related qualification or trade certification; a recognised teaching or assessing qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS, CAVA, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Full commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to creating a supportive learning environment for all.
  • Comfortable working on-site in both workshop and classroom settings in Liverpool, with full readiness to follow and enforce health and safety procedures.
