Job summary

FM Conway Ltd in Wellingborough is seeking a Multi Skilled Operative to support our Aggregate and Asphalt division. You will operate the asphalt plant, mobile plant machinery, and coordinate weighbridge functions to ensure smooth site performance.

This is a full-time, permanent role based at our Wellingborough site. Joining ahead of the plant opening in 2027, you will receive full training and induction, work across Southeast sites initially, and ultimately help establish a new production site

Qualifications

• Team player with good communications and a full UK driving licence.
• Flexible, computer literate and health and safety conscious. Previous similar experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Operate the asphalt plant efficiently to ensure optimum use of resources.
• Carry out all weighbridge functions and manage delivery schedules.
• Operate loading shovels safely and efficiently.
• Operate other mobile plant such as telehandlers and skidsteers as required.
• Carry out daily checks and basic maintenance on plant and equipment; report defects promptly.
• Maintain accurate records for weighbridge, production and mobile plant operations.
• Complete daily housekeeping to maintain a safe, efficient working environment.

Job description

FM Conway is currently seeking a Multi Skilled Operative to join our Aggregate and Asphalt division to play a key role in supporting operations at our asphalt manufacturing sites. As a Multi Skilled Operative, you will perform a varied role that includes operating the asphalt plant, mobile plant machinery, and coordinating weighbridge functions to ensure smooth and efficient site performance. This is a full time, permanent role based at our Wellingborough site.

With over 15 years’ experience producing high-quality asphalt, FM Conway operates seven successful asphalt plants across the South of England and is now expanding into the Midlands with our eighth site in Wellingborough. The successful Lead Fitter will join a brand-new team and will be crucial to setting up the new plant, helping to establish engineering standards, site performance and operational success from the very beginning.

Joining ahead of the plant opening in 2027, you will initially work across our existing Southeast sites, receiving full training and structured induction support to understand our operations, systems and engineering standards.

By the time the new plant opens, you will be fully prepared to lead from day one and play a major role in establishing a successful new production site.

The duties of the Multi Skilled Operative role will include:

• Operating the asphalt plant efficiently to ensure optimum use of company resources
• Carrying out all weighbridge functions, including using the company order system and managing delivery schedules
• Operating loading shovels safely and efficiently
• Operating other mobile plant such as telehandlers and skidsteers as required
• Carrying out daily checks and basic maintenance on plant and equipment, reporting defects accurately and promptly
• Maintaining accurate records for weighbridge, production, and mobile plant operations
• Completing daily housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

What skills and experience do you need?

To be considered for this role It is essential that you are a team player, with good communications skills and a full UK driving license. You will be flexible, computer literate and health and safety conscious. Previous experience within a similar role would be desirable.
