Job summary

FM Conway is seeking a Plant Fitter to join our Aggregate and Asphalt division in Wellingborough. You will carry out electrical and mechanical maintenance across our asphalt plants, supporting operations and contributing to continuous improvement.

The role is full-time and permanent, with training and development opportunities as we prepare for the new site opening in 2027. You will work across existing Southeast sites initially, with a focus on establishing engineering standards and safe

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance within a process/manufacturing environment; strong health and safety understanding and safe isolation procedures.
• Level 3 engineering qualification and 18th Edition wiring regulations certification.
• Strong problem solver, able to work independently or as part of a team, with good communication skills and a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned and reactive electrical and mechanical maintenance to maximise plant uptime.
• Diagnosing faults and completing repairs, installations, and breakdown response.
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures, including permit to work and LOTOTO.
• Supporting maintenance systems, including CMMS updates and technical documentation.
• Assisting with engineering projects from planning through to commissioning.
• Supervising and coordinating contractors and maintenance activities where required.
• Providing out-of-hours support and mentoring apprentices and team members.

Job description

FM Conway is currently seeking a Plant Fitter to join our Aggregate and Asphalt division and play a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our asphalt manufacturing plants. As our Plant Fitter you will perform a multi-skilled role, carrying out electrical and mechanical maintenance, supporting plant operations, and contributing to continuous improvement and future project work. This is a full time, permanent role.

With over 15 years’experience producing high-quality asphalt, FM Conwayoperatesseven successful asphalt plants across the South of England and is now expanding into the Midlands with our eighth site in Wellingborough.The successful Lead Fitter will join a brand-new team andwill be crucial tosetting up the new plant, helping toestablishengineering standards, siteperformanceand operational success from the very beginning.

Joining ahead of the plant opening in 2027, you will initially work across our existing Southeast sites, receiving full training and structured induction support to understand our operations,systemsand engineering standards.

By the time the new plant opens, you will be fully prepared to lead from day one and playa major roleinestablishinga successful new production site.
