Job summary

Bekaert in Willington Quay is seeking a Maintenance Technician to ensure plant and machinery availability across the site. The role follows a 3-week rotating shift pattern, with various early/late schedules, and a salary budget of £41,018.56 plus £4,747.81 shift allowance.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, experience with SMED/maintenance, and a commitment to health, safety, and continuous improvement. This is a full-time, on-site position at our Willington Quay site.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical faults.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Familiarity with CMMS for maintenance tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain plant and equipment to maximise availability.
  • Carry out planned maintenance and reactive maintenance as required.
  • Coordinate with production supervision to ensure smooth operation.
  • Lead continuous improvement and safety initiatives on site.

I. Purpose of the Role

Ensure plant and machinery across site are available and reliable by proactively seeking to reduce plant downtime through due diligence. To assist in the reduction of downtime, SMED, continuous improvement initiatives, health and safety and project work.

Full pattern:- 3 week rotating shift pattern working Monday to Thursday 6am-2pm and Friday 6am-11:40am or Monday to Thursday 2pm-10pm and Friday 11:40-17:20 or Monday to Thursday 10pm-6am and Friday 17:20-11pm.

Salary Budget - £41,018.56 + Shift Allowance £4,747.81

II. Roles and Responsibilities
  • Principal accountabilities shall include but not be limited to:
  • Work consistently within the remit of all company policies and procedures (Health and Safety, Quality, H.R. & environmental).
  • Ensure full compliance to the Company’s quality / environment standards (ISO 14001etc) and also any legislation applicable to our operations (HSE, waste, COSHH etc.)
  • To carry out when requested Process Setup of equipment and assists in all SMED activities
  • To carry out planned maintenance to the required standard and reactive maintenance when required.
  • To be able to coordinate and cooperate with production supervision on a day to day basis, to ensure the smooth running and availability of plant and equipment.
  • To actively support and engage in continuous improvement projects and ensures the sustainability of these activities through promotion of best operational practices.
  • Continuous promotion of best H&S practice by coordinating audits, assist in SOP reviews.
  • To proactively help reduce function accident statistics.
  • To carry out project works assigned to schedule.
  • Continuous promotion of best practice H & S by co-ordinating audits, SOP reviews, quality, and accident/incident investigation.
  • From time to time may be required to work at other Bridon sites.
  • Mechanical Systems Knowledge: Understanding of machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues effectively.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Proficiency in developing and executing maintenance schedules.
  • Technical Drawing Interpretation: Skill in reading and interpreting mechanical schematics.
  • Hands-On Skills: Experience with hand and power tools for repairs.
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems: Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in machinery.
  • Safety Compliance: Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS): Ability to use CMMS for tracking maintenance activities.
